چکیده

The internuclear potential V(r) of a diatomic molecule is spherically symmetric. It depends only on r, the internuclear separation. The internuclear potential v(r) can be determined using the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, where we assume that the motion of the nuclei is very slow compared to that of the electrons. We solve for the energy of ground electronic state as a function of the internuclear separation r to obtain v(r). r e r v(r) D e This is known as a central force problem, since the potential depends only on the separation between the nuclei. We can reduce such a two-particle problem to one involving the independent (translational) motion of an object whose mass is the total mas of the diatomic (m 1 + m 2) and the motion of a particle of reduced mass µ, 1 1 1 1 2 µ = + m m , which moves under the influence of the potential v(r). This transformation is presented

Mayer Expansion for monomer-dimer system

Statistical mechanics is a branch of physics that applies probability theory, which contains mathematical tools for dealing with large populations, to the study of the thermodynamic behavior of systems composed of a large number of particles. A deep connection between probability theory and physics has been discovered in the research of statistical mechanics. The simplest model in statistical m...

Ballistic and diffusive dynamics in a two-dimensional ideal gas of macroscopic chaotic Faraday waves.

We have constructed a macroscopic driven system of chaotic Faraday waves whose statistical mechanics, we find, are surprisingly simple, mimicking those of a thermal gas. We use real-time tracking of a single floating probe, energy equipartition, and the Stokes-Einstein relation to define and measure a pseudotemperature and diffusion constant and then self-consistently determine a coefficient of...

Generalized Phase Space and Statistical Mechanics of Ideal Gas

Generalized Uncertainty Principle(GUP) leads to modification of fundamental volume ω0 of accessible phase space for representative points. In this paper we consider the effects of this modification on thermodynamics of an ideal gas in microcanonical ensemble. PACS: 04.60.-m, 05.70.Ce, 51.30.+i

How the Nonextensivity Parameter Affects Energy Fluctuations

In this article, the effect of the nonextensivity parameter on the energy fluctuations of nonextensive systems is studied in two different versions of the Tsallis statistical mechanics. Once a general expression has been reported for the energy fluctuations in the second version (Tsallis work in 1988), the energy fluctuations of an ideal gas and a harmonic oscillator are studied in the second a...

Validation of the Jarzynski relation for a system with strong thermal coupling: an isothermal ideal gas model.

We revisit the paradigm of an ideal gas under isothermal conditions. A moving piston performs work on an ideal gas in a container that is strongly coupled to a heat reservoir. The thermal coupling is modeled by stochastic scattering at the boundaries. In contrast to recent studies of an adiabatic ideal gas with a piston [R.C. Lua and A.Y. Grosberg, J. Phys. Chem.
